Spencer SolarRise

About the Project

Spencer Solarise
Ned Collier, the person behind the project

In the wake of the Climate and Cost of Living Crisis, I want to help residents of Spencer Rise lower their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint through the purchase of solar panels in bulk.

To do this my colleague Daisy and I have been contacting households on the street to ask initially for an expression of interest. Then, once we’ve received their contact details we have contacted them via email to keep them updated on the project (phase 1) and then later in phase 2 we will provide costs for a solar PV array & battery for a typical Spencer Rise property.

The advantage to the residents of signing up for this scheme will be to have access to cheaper solar panels (and battery) through the economies of scale/cost savings of buying in bulk.

April 2024:
We are in the process of finalising quotes from 3 suppliers

  1. JoJu
  2. SunSave
  3. Everyone’s Energy
  4. Potentia Engineering

These quotes are nearly in and we will share the average cost in marketing leaflets to residents soon.

We need to give a special mention to Camden Council who recently gave us £500 funding for this project through Camden Giving https://www.camdengiving.org.uk

June 2024:
We have selected Potentia Engineering as our supplier for this scheme.

I am getting 8 solar panels and a battery installed on Mon 24th – Tue 25th June. Stay tuned for pictures and videos of the installation taking place

Late June 2024

The panels on my property have now been installed with a battery unit too. Here are a few photos of the boys at work and the PV system in-situ:

Planning Permission

New rules announced by the Governt in Nov 2023 mean that planning permission is no longer required for the installation of solar panels on domestic properties. More info can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-planning-rules-to-boost-solar-rollout-and-slash-energy-bills
